What is Dark Feminine Yoga?
2 November 2025
Yoga in itself means the union of mind, body and spirit.
This is why yoga really is not about the 'poses' or asanas and more about connecting movement with breath in order to journey into a deeper sense of calm in the mind and thus creating a closer connection to our spirit or soul.

The beauty of yoga is that with consistent practice we not only notice a shift in our inner world while on the mat but we can feel a positive shift in our every day life - feeling calmer, more connected to our body and emotional experiences with less judgment, and clearer on our sense of self as a soul having a human experience.
This is where yoga can be a powerful tool to awaken the Dark Feminine energy within as we allow for a space to go deep within and embody the aspects of inner strength, calm, connectedness and wisdom that are often we have often forgotten or are not consciously aware of in daily life.

What do we mean by Dark Feminine yoga?

In simple words, Dark Feminine yoga is the yoga practice of embodying the Dark Feminine energy.
What this means is that we use the wisdom of yoga as a practice of physical postures, breath with movement, meditation and ritual to open the gateways to the Divine Dark Feminine within.

While there is a lot of power in practicing yoga in stillness without music, I practice yoga with empowering music to truly connect with my Dark Feminine energy as this ignites my sensuality, my inner fire and my power. So if you join me in one of my Dark Feminine yoga practices you may find that the music is intentionally used to awaken and remember these energies in order to deeply embody the Dark Feminine within.

As the Dark Feminine is the energy of being connected to our embodiment, our cycles, our depth and stillness, as well as our empowerment, Dark Feminine yoga can be described in these four ways:

Embodied

By intentionally including movements and asanas that feel sensual and fluid yet grounding, we create a space to deepen the connection with our body throughout the yoga practice.
As yoga also focused on the union of body, mind and spirit through breath and movement, we allow for greater awareness of our physical sensations and the flow of our feminine body like water which leads to greater sense of 'embodiment'.
Dark Feminine yoga is therefore embodied by allowing space to truly connect with your body through the awareness of breath and sensations, with the combination of sensual and intuitive movements as well as grounding postures.

Cyclical

As the feminine energy itself is cyclical in nature - that is honouring her inner seasons of winter, spring, summer and autumn and connection to the moon energies - it is important for Dark Feminine yoga to also honour this natural wisdom without the female body.

What this means is that we can use yoga as a way to meet ourselves where we are at in our cycle by shifting the yoga practice to suit our seasonal state.
For example, when we find ourselves in our inner winter season our body tends to crave a slower pace in order to create space to 'release', making more restorative or yin postures quite healing. In comparison, when we find ourselves in our inner summer season we might notice an increase in energy and thus seeking more past-paced or empowering practices with movements and poses that enhance our sensuality and confidence.

Practicing yoga to honour our cycle can help enhance our inner intuition while also creating more space for self-love and acceptance of the wisdom our body holds.

Deep

The Dark Feminine holds us in the depths of our emotions, the unknown, the stillness, the chaos. She is the energy of deep self-love through the moments of uncertainty. She allows us to attend to our inner shadows with curiosity and non-judgment, while also helping us release what is no longer serving in order to create space for the new.

This is where yoga can be an incredible tool to embody the Dark Feminine energy that is able to go deep within to allow for transformation to happen.

We can create a deeper yoga practice through incorporating 'yin' postures that allow fore moments of stillness and inquiry, while also using meditation and ritual practices to enhance our inner guidance and awareness of our emotional states. Hence, you might find that in my Dark Feminine yoga practices I like to invite for moments of self-inquiry through pause, yin asanas, meditation and ritual.

Empowered

As yoga allows for an opportunity to connect with ourselves on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level, we can use this beautiful practice to access the empowered part of the Dark Feminine.
We can do this by creating sequences with postures that feel empowering (such as warrior II, goddess pose, chair pose, mountain pose, cobra pose, triangle pose, boat pose, and camel pose) so that we can embody the sense of self-confidence and remember the strength within,

Because the Dark Feminine also allows space to truly 'feel' our emotions, including our sacred rage, we might use yoga to access our emotional states in a healthy way through the use of sounds or deep exhale breaths to hold space for or release any emotions within the practice.

As I mentioned earlier, I also love my Dark Feminine yoga practice with music that helps me access my inner sensuality and fire so that I can remember the power within that feels authentic.
